Rodan + Fields MLM Review

Are you just wild about Rodan + Fields products? Has someone suggested you should become an R + F consultant? Are you dreaming of big paydays and fabulous trips and incentives? Before you go down that road, get a view of the opportunity from a different angle. The results may surprise you!

What is Rodan + Fields?

Rodan + Fields is a multi-level marketing company that has been selling skin care products since 2002. Founded by dermatologists, Katie Rodan and Kathy Fields, the company was sold in 2003 to Estée Lauder Companies. The founders purchased the company back in 2007.   Offering their products through independent consultants using a multi-level marketing business model,  Rodan + Fields is mostly sold through social media channels. Headquartered in San Francisco, California, the company’s current President and CEO is Diane Dietz.  Rodan + Fields is currently sold in Australia, Canada, and the United States.

Are Rodan + Fields Products Worth the Money?

Rodan + Fields got their start in upscale department stores. When they switched to the MLM model, it didn’t affect the pricing formula.

This is mainly a skin care line, not a cosmetics line. There are several regimens, or groupings, of products designed to address the skin issues a woman can find herself facing.

Because these products were designed and developed by dermatologists who already had a reputation for developing the very effective Proactiv skincare line, Rodan + Fields products are pricey. The most recent revenue information shows the company doing $1.5 billion in sales in 2018. That’s a lot of women who believe in the product and think it’s worth the investment.

The Rodan + Fields MLM Opportunity

Like other MLM companies, Rodan + Fields has two ways for you to make money:

  • Sell the products
  • Recruit others to sell the products

You must sell $100 each calendar month. If you do that, you will earn 10% on your sales and 5% on your team’s sales. You will also be eligible for performance bonuses.

To help you do that, they promise:

  • You’ll be selling skin care that works
  • You’ll have room to grow within a caring community
  • Extras provided by Programs and Incentives

Rodan + Fields Products

With the exception of one foundation product, the product line consists of skin care and body care products. The focus is on Rodan + Fields MLM Review - Skincareimproving aging skin and the problems that come along with aging skin. The products can be purchased as regimens, or sets, and individually. Each regimen tackles a specific skin issue. The regimens include:

  • Redefine
  • Reverse
  • Recharge
  • Unblemish
  • Spotless
  • Soothe

You’ll also notice several variations of each regimen with additional products that target specific skin problems.

How Much Does it Cost to Join Rodan + Fields?

The cost of the basic starter kit, which includes products and consultant supplies, is $45. But, be prepared to have much larger and more expensive kits offered to you at sign up time. If you are already a Rodan + Fields customer, I imagine these offers will be. quite attractive. If you’re not already a customer, this will give you the opportunity to try the products first-hand.  One of the things your customers are going to expect is a consultant who understands the line and can recommend accordingly.  The larger kits will also give you the opportunity to earn at a higher commission rate.

In addition to the starter kit, you’ll also receive a trial subscription to your own consultant website. Once the free subscription is over, you’ll have the opportunity to continue on at $24.95 per month.  There’s a huge incentive to continue on with this helpful products,  It tracks all of your customer sales, and if you choose to down-grade to the free version, you loose all of this valuable information.

Can You Make Money with Rodan + Fields?

The chart below tells part of the story. For example:

  • 98.9% earn less than $30,000 per year.
  • 2.8% earn less than $15,000 per year.
  • 5.9% earn less than $7,000 per year.
  • 28.9% earn less than $3,000 per year.
  • 61.3% earn less than $330 per year.
  • 0.10% earn $351,325 per year.
  • 97 out of 300,000 consultants earn over $1,200,000 per year.

Let’s put this into perspective.  That $100 quota you must meet each month will put $10 in your pocket.  Unless you opted to continue with the website.  To break even on that, you need to sell an additional $150 each month just to break even.  That doesn’t take into consideration reimbursing yourself for what you paid for your kit, and the additional product you buy to reach your monthly quota.

However, there’s more to the story than numbers. Like everything else in life, there are lots of variables. For example:

  • how much experience you have in marketing skincare
  • how many contacts you have
  • how much time you have available to build your business
  • how motivated and determined you may be.

The opportunity is available to everyone who buys a kit, so you may be one of the 1.3% who makes more than $30,000 per year with this MLM. But, before you decide, take a closer look at MLM companies in general. Rodan + Fields MLM Review - Income Disclosure

Pros and Cons of Rodan + Fields

  1. Well-known product line.
  2. The products appear to be effective.
  3. The founders have a successful track record with skin care products.

  1. It’s an MLM, and most people never earn their initial investment back, let alone make a profit.
  2. Products are sold by the company on Amazon and eBay, increasing your competition.
  3. It’s never going to be your business. It’s owned by Dr. Rodan and Dr. Fields.

Final ThoughtsRodan + Fields MLM Review - Glassdoor Review

Looking at the Glassdoor reviews, you can find lots of comments about a lack of confidence in upper management by corporate employees. If you check the Glassdoor chart on the right, you’ll see that the CEO only enjoys a 22% approval rate. Only 24% of the folks reviewing the company would recommend it to a friend. This is important, because these are the people making the business decisions that directly affect you and your income.

Reviews by former and current reps of Rodan + Fields are very similar to reviews from reps of other MLM companies. If you’re one of the first few to sign up, or your social media following is huge, you’re making a great income. If not, prepare to struggle to earn enough to cover the price of your kit and the monthly payment for the website. This is a challenging way to make a living, and requires a very specific set of skills, and an immovable mindset.

An Alternative to Multi-Level Marketing

Are you longing for your own business, but want the assistance of someone who has already done it and can serve as your guide? Someone who will help you every step of the way? Then, why not build your own online business?

You won’t be restricted to offering just one company’s products, and you won’t ever have to face what the Mary Kay consultants in Australia and New Zealand faced on March 5, 2020. With no more than a day’s notice, everything these consultants had built their futures on was gone. The company decided that they could “not see a sustainable future” as a result of “market conditions.”

Take a look at my #1 recommendation . They’ll provide all the training that you need, and you won’t have to stake your future on the work ethics or whims of other people.

The best part is, once you get your online business going, it will work for you 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It’s pretty fabulous and there’s no obligation to see if you agree with me. Why not get all the facts right now?

  1. Hi There,

First up I really loved the video (Go Get Um Girls) It’s like I’m watching a real live event and I’m in the audience hence I loved your website. I was asked before if I was an MLM business and I said not me and I’m not but now I’ve watched this I think why not the best things are sold with many that love and trust the products I say.

Great website and I like the sound of Rodan & Fields it just sounds right to me which drives your future. Great stuff. I’ll send this to my GF she’s into the perfume and makeup so good luck girls and I’m into great websites.

    In Friendship

    • Hi Stephen,

If your girlfriend is OK with constantly recruiting new people, this might be a good fit.  The products are excellent quality.  She just needs to be aware that the majority of people never make their investment back on an MLM venture.  Most of those that do make any money end up making less than minimum wage by U.S. standards.  There are much better ways to go into the cosmetic/skin care business for yourself.

Thanks for joining the conversation; I appreciate it!

  2. MLMs are always challenging. I have a friend that is great at these types of business. If you don’t care much about repeating yourself over and over again, enjoy talking to a lot of strangers and you’re a habit consumer of the specific products you’re selling you may have an opportunity.

Thanks for a great review… I know from other sources that less than 10% of the people that get involved in MLM could actually make a living on it.

I’ve taken a look to your alternative and it seems really interesting, I’ll follow along and keep you posted, thanks for a great recommendation!

    • It does sound like your friend is perfect for the MLM life.  It takes constant recruiting, and a very special person to maintain that pace.

I’m glad you found my recommendation helpful.  Thanks for joining the conversation; I appreciate it!
